14th Annual BB&T Classic
The BB&T Classic featured the very best in regional college basketball with a day of exciting NCAA action. A short handed Auburn team made their first
appearance in the Nation's Capital and edged out George Washinton, 74-70, while George Mason lost a hard fought battle to East Carolina, 68-65. In the tournament's finale, Virginia
Commonwealth defeated Maryland, 85-76.
The BB&T Classic benefits the Children’s Charities Foundation of Washington, D.C. Since 1995, the Foundation has distributed 6.8 million dollars to charities throughout the Washington region supporting disadvantaged and at-risk children through programs to assist with health and welfare, to build strong families, and to provide educational and recreational opportunities.
